Let the busboy bus.
So I’m on a conference call and there’s a bunch of people on the call. I pretty much always turn on my “this is worthless” button as I feel that a lot of meetings are worthless. I realized while sitting here that I think they are worthless because I don’t have 1) anything to say 2) anything to contribute 3) any control over the direction. For instance, if I worked in a restaurant as a busboy, and the owner was having a meeting with 3 customers who had an idea about the restaurant, I would be called into this meeting. Even though it should probably just be management and maybe some staff that faces the customer. I may be fantastic at being a busboy, but I don’t need to be at that meeting to tout that skill nor do I forsee that that fact will contribute value to the meeting.
Conclusion: the meeting isn’t worthless. My attendance at the meeting: worthless.
